Welcome to the Chen Art Gallery. The Chen Art Gallery is a non-profit museum that houses one of the most important collections of Chinese art in the United States. Operated by the T.F. Chen Family Foundation the museum showcases the collection of world renowned herbalist and pharmacist Dr. Tei Fu Chen and his family.Open to the public since 2001, the Chen Art Gallery displays an impressive array of over 1,000 artifacts spanning 5000 years of Chinese history from the earliest Neolithic Era pottery to early 20th Century creations. Permanent exhibition galleries include a sumptuous Qing dynasty imperial throne room, an elegant Ming dynasty bedroom, scholar’s studio treasures, jade carvings, snuff bottles, cloisonné, gilt bronze Buddhist statues, ancient pottery, and several rooms of imperial porcelains. In 2006 a special exhibitions gallery was added to feature exhibitions of delicate silk textiles, traditional scroll paintings, or recent acquisitions. In 2012 three more galleries were added for a total of over 15 exhibition rooms. In 2014 a temporary exhibition debuted the acquisition of 100 original etchings from the masterful Vollard Suite by Pablo Picasso.Currently on view is an exhibition titled "The Eye of an Art Collector” that features 4 rooms with various European art including Renaissance-20th century bronze statues, luxurious 18-20th century British and French clocks and jeweled eggs designed by Theo Fabergé.Opening August 2018 is an exciting new exhibition titled Càntic del Sol which debuts a new acquisition of 35 original aquatints by 20th century Spanish artist Joan Miró. These artworks are colorful interpretations of a 12th century Italian hymn known as “Canticle of the Sun” by St. Francis of Assisi. Located within the world headquarters of Sunrider International in Torrance, California, the museum is free and open to the public. The T.F. Chen Family sincerely hopes that each person who visits the museum can appreciate the beauty, rich history, and amazing achievements of Chinese culture. In this way the Chen Art Gallery aspires to serve as a bridge of cultural understanding and appreciation between East and West.
